Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) develops as a result of an abnormal response due to impaired barrier function of the intestinal epithelium and defects in the mucosal immune system. IBD is a group of diseases in which genetic, environmental and host immune response factors play an important role in the etiology.
The aim is to selectively remove some of the inflammation-causing leukocytes and platelets from the patient's whole blood by means of a leukocyte apheresis column, thus achieving a rapid clinical improvement in a short time.
